Living below sealevel in Holland inspired me to think about
the myth of mermaids. After drawing so many coasters with mermaids, I started composing
a scene that included the largest, but as yet unseen, predator in the ocean, the
colossal squid. I'm working towards a painting that shows a sunrise. You notice
the mermaid, out of the water, with a surprised look. The reflection of the sunrise
on the ocean isn't a reflection at all but a giant squid about to break the surface
of the water and catch a tasty immortal. |
