RE:Recommendation for Mr. Cappy Jack
To Whom It May Concern,
This is a personal recommendation for Mr.Cappy Jack and verification
of his expert skills and abilities.Mr. Jack's talents as a technician, sculptor
and educator are noteworthy. He has dedicated his life to learning and practicing
as a fine artist and sharing his knowledge with others.
Cappy was enrolled in our school's Apprenticeship Program from August
1983 to October 1984 studying the advanced processes of sculpture making. The program
is an 18 to 24 month, comprehensive course of study approved by the New Jersey State
Department of Education and operates full time, fifty_two weeks per year.It is designed
to communicate the skills and technical aspects of sculpture production at the highest
levels of craftsmanship and also to encourage participation in the entire range
of Atelier activities on the basis of personal interest and achievement. In this
program, the old_world apprentice concept has been passed down from generations
of highly skilled, master craftspersons and utilizes the production of professional
artwork as a basis for teaching and preserving the specialized skills of fine art
metal casting and finishing.
Cappy Jack excelled in his studies and on October 22, 1984, just two
short months into the second year of his program, he was hired as staff in our Wax
Working, Ceramic Shell and Shell Foundry Departments. As an employee, he had further
opportunities to learn and refine techniques in these areas. In each and every aspect,
he showed exceptional ability and demonstrated a high level of accomplishment.During
this time, Cappy developed a close working relationship with supervisory staff,
readily assisted with client project assignments and instructed apprentices on technical
applications. Then, on May 26, 1987, he became officially and formally certified
by the New Jersey State Department of Education as an Instructor.
In addition to his daytime role, Cappy was a team instructor in our
Afterhours Workshop Program. These are evening studio sessions offered year around
for the benefit of both students and school staff.Coursework generally covers safety
topics and advanced sculpture making processes. Business principles and topical
seminars for artists are also scheduled. Information is intended to encourage member
artists to apply learned techniques to their own art work.
Cappy remained with us as instructional staff until July 14, 1988,
when he decided to leave our employ to further his professional career in fine art.
I feel that Cappy Jack would be an asset to your institution. He is
a true professional, a diligent worker and dedicated teacher.Cappy is able to provide
technical experience and artistic insight to students of any age at any level. All
of us at the Johnson Atelier give him our highest recommendation.
Respectfully, Jim Ulry, Academic Director
